VANESSA
SHENTON
Qualified in 1995 and now a non-practising solicitor.
Her experience includes:
Practising litigation and therefore benefiting from first
hand experience of private practice and issues affecting high street firms.
Managing the underwriting department of Greystoke Legal
Services Ltd, an after the event legal expense insurance company, developing
underwriting procedures and gaining experience in risk assessing a broad range
of legal disputes.
Managing a firm of claimant cost negotiators and learning
the art of robust negotiation with defendant liability insurers.
Acting as the Remuneration Policy Manager for The Law
Society building relationships with prominent members of the Judiciary, the Bar
Council and the insurance industry, principally around the area of conditional
fee arrangements and legal expense insurance.
Monitoring firms of solicitors within her role as Practice
Standards Adviser providing her within an insider perspective on the SRA and an
in-depth knowledge of the development of rules and regulations affecting law
firms over the course of time.
Vanessa is a CPD
accredited trainer and has conducted seminars and workshops both in-house at
law firms of varying sizes and at public conferences, including for such
organisations as The Institute of Legal Executives, The Criminal Law
Solicitors’ Association, local law societies, The Sole Practitioners Group and
at the Law Society's Law Management Section events.
She is an accredited
Lexcel assessor and consultant and she provided advice and checked content
for the 4th edition of the Lexcel Office Procedures Manual published by
The Law Society.

Home:
Vanessa spends her spare time with her 2 dogs either
cruising the River Thames on her river boat or at home in the garden next
to a pond stocked with Koi, Ghost and Mirror Carp, Tench and
Sturgeon. Angling is also one of Vanessa's favourite pastimes and her
largest fish is a 15lb Barbel, one of the largest to be caught on her
local stretch of the Thames. Vanessa is also the proud owner of Triumph Street Triple 675cc motorcycle and gets out on the road when ever she can, weather permitting. In the little
spare time she has left, Vanessa is studying for an MSc in Strategic Management
at Bristol University using (with their permission)
her clients as case studies for her various modules.
